Nicole Evangelista, B.S.

Nicole EvangelistaBiography

Nicole Evangelista is a doctoral student in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. She graduated from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) in 2014 with a B.S. in Physiology & Neuroscience, and a minor in Psychology. As an undergraduate, she was an undergraduate research assistant for Dr. Mark Bondi and Dr. Lisa Delano-Wood, evaluating cognitive and brain changes in middle-aged and older adults at risk for dementia. After graduation, she worked as a lab manager/research assistant at the VA San Diego Healthcare System for Dr. Delano-Wood, using fMRI and neuropsychological assessment to examine cognitive and clinical outcomes in Veterans with a history of traumatic brain injury. She also worked as a lab manager/research assistant for Dr. Katherine Bangen, examining cerebrovascular markers of cognitive decline in older adults at risk for dementia. She is currently a first-year student in the Center for Cognitive Aging and Memory (CAM) under the mentorship of Dr. Adam Woods.

Research Focus

Nicole is interested in utilizing neuroimaging and other translational research methods to better characterize modifiable biological factors underlying age-associated cognitive impairment. Her current research focus is on the utility of non-invasive brain stimulation, neuroimaging, and cognitive training to improve cognitive function in older adults.
