Brittany began her studies in the Child/Pediatric track of the Clinical & Health Psychology Doctoral Program in the fall of 2014. Her master’s thesis, which examined the associations between executive dysfunction, academic achievement, and self esteem in a pediatric sample, was completed under the mentorship of Drs. Shelley Heaton and David Janicke.
Brittany is a first-generation college student from southern West Virginia. She graduated summa cum laude from the West Virginia University Honors College with a major in Psychology. A McNair Scholar, Brittany was involved in research in WVU’s Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Pediatric Psychology research labs. During this time, she also gained experience delivering one-on-one behavioral interventions to children with autism spectrum disorder at the Center for Excellence in Disabilities Autism Clinic. In her free time, Brittany enjoys attending concerts and teaching her pug, Louie, new tricks.
Brittany has primary research interests in early childhood disruptive behavior disorders and ADHD symptomology. She is broadly interested in the behavioral symptoms associated with these conditions as they relate to and interact with parenting style, parent stress, and socioeconomic status.
Brittany particularly enjoys helping parents refine behavior management skills. She is currently being trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based intervention to improve the quality of parent-child relationships and to treat a variety of childhood psychological conditions. Given the role of parent psychological wellbeing in child behavior, Brittany is increasingly interested in therapeutic interventions for adults with life stressors and emotional difficulties.
