Biography

Addie Padron

Adaixa Padron, M.S., is a fifth-year doctoral student in the Medical/Health Track within the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology (CHP) at the University of Florida (UF). She graduated summa cum laude from Saint Leo University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Adaixa began her doctoral studies at UF in 2016 under the mentorship of Deidre B. Pereira, PhD, ABPP, in the Psycho-Oncology Lab. Since then, she has received her Master’s in Clinical Psychology and has been awarded with: (1) a graduate research assistantship in 2016 and 2018, (2) a graduate teaching assistantship in 2017 and 2019, (3) CHP’s nomination for the Distinguished Student Scientist-Practitioner Award in Clinical Psychology co-sponsored by APA Division 12 and CUDCP, and (4) the Florence Shafer Memorial Award for Excellence in Psychotherapeutic Counseling in 2019.

RESEARCH FOCUS

As a graduate trainee, Adaixa has participated in diverse research experiences with a primary emphasis in psycho-oncology, circadian rhythms, and psychoneuroimmunology, particularly as it pertains to patients and caregivers impacted by late stage and metastatic cancers. She is currently working on conducting her dissertation study, entitled: Diurnal Variations in Salivary Concentrations of Pro-Tumorigenic Cytokines and Possible Effects of Psycho-Physiological Stress in Gynecologic Cancer Patients and Matched Healthy Controls. The study will examine the multi-dimensional associations among inflammation, psycho-physiological stress, immune processes, and circadian rhythms as well as their impact on cancer initiation, progression, and recurrence. Adaixa has received both an NIH F31 Kirschstein Individual Predoctoral Fellowship Diversity award and a Predoctoral Award from the UF Health Cancer Center for her dissertation.
