Dr. Rebecca Pearl has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 American Psychological Association (APA) Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Psychologists in the area of health psychology. This award is an outstanding accolade for scientific achievement and is designed to honor early career scientists for contributions in the first 9 years post-PhD. There are ten total areas, but only five areas are considered each year, with areas rotated in 2-year cycles. This year, health was one of the five areas awarded.
Dr. Pearl’s research focuses on understanding and reducing health-related stigma, with a primary focus on weight stigma. Her work has been supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, including the 2022 NIH Director’s New Innovator Award.
Dr. Pearl will be recognized at a virtual awards event that will take place this fall, receiving a formal personalized award citation and a monetary prize.
