Francesca Lopez, MS, a rising fifth year doctoral student, has been awarded the 2021 APA Walter G. McMillen Memorial Award for Parkinson’s Disease Research. In 2007, as a tribute to Mr. Walter G. McMillen, who died with Parkinson’s disease, a joint award between APA Division 20 – Adult Development and Aging and APA Division 40 – Clinical Neuropsychology was established. This award is designed to encourage the interests of graduate students in research on Parkinson’s disease.
Francesca received this award for her research project, titled “Cognitive Correlates of Mitochondrial Function in Parkinson’s disease.” Francesca is a predoctoral F31 Diversity Fellow (NIA) in the laboratory of Dr. Dawn Bowers’ and is co-mentored by Dr. Adam Woods.
