UF Insomnia and Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic (IBSM)

Patients seen for treatment in our clinic may be seen for a variety of sleep disorders, including insomnia, delayed/advanced sleep phase, CPAP adherence, or medication withdrawal. Additionally, many patients seen for treatment are also experiencing symptoms of a psychological diagnosis such as depression or anxiety.

We see adult patients and adolescents starting from the age of 12. For children aged 6-12, please visit this site for a research study opportunity.

We provide an evidence-based 7-12 week treatment called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (commonly referred to as CBTi). This one-on-one therapy is a well-established treatment for insomnia which provides psychoeducation regarding the nature of sleep and insomnia and teaches skills that improve sleep onset and maintenance. Research has shown that it can lead to substantial improvements in sleep onset latency, wake after sleep onset, and sleep quality overall. CBTi can be a variation of a number of behavioral and cognitive treatments, but the combination of treatments in our clinic’s intervention is very comprehensive. They include:

  • Sleep education
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Stimulus control therapy
  • Sleep restriction
  • Relaxation training
  • Cognitive Therapy

Additionally, CBTi does not include any additional medications. In fact, we ask patients to continue their routine sleep medication regimen throughout the course of treatment. If they would like to discontinue them following therapy, we provide a gentle and assisted taper protocol.

Please contact the Clinical and Health Psychology Clinic if you or your patient would like to schedule an evaluation for CBTi. (352) 265-0294. If you are a UF Health provider, referrals may also be made via EPIC.

The IBSM clinic is located in the UF Health Sleep Center in Magnolia Parke on 39th Ave (North side of town).
