Vaughn Bryant, Sc.M.

Biography

Vaughn Bryant, Sc.M. is a graduate student at the University of Florida in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. Vaughn graduated with his Master’s in Behavioral and Social Sciences from Brown University in 2013. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2010. Vaughn is currently in the Neuropsychology track and he works as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Cognitive Aging and Memory under the mentorship of Dr. Ronald Cohen. He was awarded a three year Ruth L. Kirchstein National Research Service Award entitled “Working memory: A critical factor underlying alcohol reduction intervention response.” The grant was awarded by NIH (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism).

Research Focus

Vaughn’s primary research interests include: working memory, alcohol misuse, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and cognitive aging. The focus of his recently awarded fellowship grant is the study of whether working memory and associated neural networks (assessed via brain imaging) can predict reduced alcohol use in persons with HIV who are also heavy drinkers, and who are undergoing a motivational interviewing treatment for alcohol use. Understanding the predictors of optimal treatment response can help inform future treatments. He is also interested in understanding how alcohol and other comorbid factors contribute to neurocognitive dysfunction in people living with HIV.
