Pre-Certification Program in Psychometry

The University of Florida (UF) Pre-certification Program in Psychometry is the first training program of its kind to provide a thorough grounding in the knowledge and skills needed to assist professionals in a variety of psychological testing situations. The program provides educational and practical experiences to help prepare individuals to sit for the national psychometry certification exam, offered by the Board of Certified Psychometrists. Psychometrists administer psychological tests and other standardized behavioral instruments under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. The program consists of four online courses and a final five-day on-site workshop which is held over an extended weekend at the UF (University of Florida, Gainesville) campus.

Course topics include an introduction to psychopathology and neuropsychology, professional issues, and review testing with children and adolescents, adults, and special populations. The online courses consist of a mixture of narrated Powerpoint slides and associated readings and assessments. The on-site workshop includes a videotaped demonstration of testing under usual conditions; group discussion of how to respond to unusual circumstances and testing conditions; and the opportunity to practice administering tests. Experts in neuropsychology and psychological testing will observe participants and provide feedback at the workshop.
