Title: Type 1 Diabetes: Management, Adherence, and the Role of Psychology

Speakers: Sarah C. Westen, MS

Summary: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease commonly diagnosed in childhood. Treatment involves complex daily management of blood glucose levels which includes repetitive glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, and insulin dose adjustment; given this, adherence to treatment is often suboptimal. This talk will describe the complex treatment regimen and discuss psychology’s role in pediatric T1D treatment and research..
